Create a course with material and a quiz
A course is what your team reads and answers: a few pieces of material and, if you want, a short quiz. A course without questions is completed by confirming it was read.
Before you start
- You need Make courses, assign them, record completions.
- To use documents as material, switch on Documents in Settings → Apps. Links and texts work without it.
Steps
- Open Learning → Courses and select New course.
- Type the Course title and What it covers, then select Create course. The course opens as a draft.
- Under Material, open Add material:
- Document: search with Find a document, pick it, give it a Title shown to people (optional), select Add.
- Link: paste a full web address starting with
https://, select Add. - Text: write the text (
# heading,**bold**,- listwork), select Add.
- Use the up arrow to change the order, or Remove.
- Under Quiz, open Add a question. Write the Question and pick the Answer type:
- One of the choices: write 2 to 10 Choices (one per line) and the Correct answer exactly as written (or its number);
- True or false: write True or False as the Correct answer;
- A number: write the correct number.
- Select Save question. Repeat for each question.
- Under Details, set the Pass mark (%) (80 by default), Refresher every (months) (0 = once is enough; 12 = every year) and Due within (days). Select Save.

Good to know
- Which documents can be material. Only published documents of normal confidentiality. A restricted or personal document is refused, because everyone the course is assigned to would see it. Learners open the document through the course without any Documents right.
- Document states on the course page: Ready, A newer version exists — publish the course again, Not published, Confidential: cannot be course material, Archived or Deleted.
- Limits: at most 30 pieces of material and 30 questions per course.
- Passing means the share of right answers reaches the pass mark; no rounding decides a pass.
- Nothing reaches people until you publish. See Publish a course and its new versions.
- Archive course takes a course out of use; its records stay. Restore course brings it back.
