Publish your site and roll back

Visitors see only what was published. Publishing replaces the whole site at once, so visitors never see half a change, and the previous version is kept so you can go back to it.

Before you start

  • You need the right Publish the website and manage its domains. People with only the edit right prepare the draft; a publisher puts it live.
  • Your organisation needs a public address. See Create your website.

Steps

  1. Open Sites. The top card shows Not published, or Published with the version, the time and who published it. Changes means there are changes visitors don't see yet.
  2. Select Preview and check every page in every language.
  3. If the card lists Fix these before publishing:, open the pages named and fix them. The publish button stays greyed out until nothing is left.
  4. Select Publish (or Publish changes for a site already live). The message Published. Visitors see the new version now. appears.
  5. Select the site's address under the card to open the live site.
  6. To go back, select Back to version with the previous version's number. Visitors see the previous version again.
  7. To undo the roll back, select Back to version again: it swaps the two versions back.

Good to know

  • Two versions kept. Kluvan keeps the live version and the one before it. An older version cannot be brought back.
  • Until the switch, visitors keep seeing the old version; a failed publish changes nothing.
  • What publishing checks: every page has a title in the default language, page addresses are unique, links lead to pages that exist, and each page has at most one form.
  • Today reminds publishers when changes have waited more than a day to be published.
  • No approval step. The two rights decide who may publish. To have a second person check the site, give the edit right to writers and the publish right to the person who checks.
  • Pages load fast: each published page is prepared once and cached for a minute, so a change can take up to a minute to show everywhere.
