Set up stock locations
Each branch has its own main location: the stock your sales take from. Add other locations for stock kept elsewhere, such as a back store or a central warehouse that is not a branch.
Before you start
- Switch on Warehouses for your organisation: see Pick your apps.
- A manager sets up locations. Everything else needs the right Inventory, receiving, stock-take.
Steps: switch on and add locations
- Open Settings → Warehouses.
- Under General, tick Use warehouses.
- Choose Transfers between branches: Arrive at once (as before) or Travel until the other branch receives them.
- Set Alert when a transfer is not received after (days), and leave Counts are blind for staff ticked unless you want counters to see the expected quantities.
- If you sell phones or appliances, tick their categories in Categories with serial numbers.
- Select Save.
- Under Locations, select Add location. Pick the Branch, type a Name, choose the Kind (Back store, Central warehouse, Van or Consignment at a supplier) and, in Replenished from, the location that refills it, or Suppliers (buy).
- Select Add. Repeat for each location.

Steps: receive goods into a location
- Open Warehouses and select the location under Locations.
- Under Receive goods here, scan or type each product, its quantity, cost and expiry.
- Select Receive.
- For serial-numbered goods, use Receive serial-numbered units and type one serial number per line.
Good to know
- An organisation can have up to 50 locations. Names are unique within a branch.
- Only the branch's main location is the stock your sales take from. Stock in a back store, a central warehouse or a van is not sold from there until you move it to the branch's main location; selling straight from a van or settling consignment stock is not available.
- A location you no longer use is taken out of use with In use, never deleted.
- Serial numbers and batches travel as lots: switch on lots in Settings → Features first.
- Each location's page lists its products with Min, Max and Bin / shelf, its batches and serial numbers first-expiring-first, and its value at cost.
- Next: Send a transfer in transit and Refill locations and see stock value.
