Add a reseller and its sub-customers
A reseller is one of your customers with a tier. Once it is a reseller, you can attach the customers who buy through it (its sub-customers), give its people access to their own view in the Portal, and follow its orders, targets and commission on one page.
Before you start
- You need the Resellers: manage resellers, orders and leads right.
- Make at least one tier first (see create reseller tiers).
- The reseller must already be a customer. If it is not, add it to your customers first.
Steps
Add the reseller
- Open Resellers and select Add a reseller (or choose Reseller from the New menu).
- In Find a customer by name or phone, type part of the name and select Search.
- Pick the customer.
- Choose its Tier and type its Territory, for example a city or a region.
- Optional: type Its own commission (%) to use a rate other than the tier's. Leave it empty for the tier's rate.
- Select Add a reseller. The page says The customer is now a reseller.
Add sub-customers
- Open the reseller's page from the Resellers list.
- Under Sub-customers, search for the customer in Find a customer by name or phone and select Add.
- To take a customer off, select Remove on its row.

Fill in the details
- On the reseller's page, select Edit.
- Check Tier, Territory, Its own commission (%) and State (Active or Paused).
- In Orders for its sub-customers, choose As its tier says, Allowed or Not allowed.
- In Supplier record for bills, choose the supplier record that commission bills go to, if you use Books bills.
- With Trade switched on, choose its Trade account; its territory and terms are shown.
- Tick Its own purchases also earn commission if they should, add a Note, and select Save.
Good to know
- One reseller per sub-customer. A customer cannot belong to two resellers, and a reseller cannot be a sub-customer.
- Commission counts from the day a sub-customer was added (shown as Since).
- A paused reseller cannot order; its portal view says ordering is closed for now.
- Portal access: the Portal card on the reseller's page shows how many of its people can sign in. Select Portal access to give its people access in the Portal app (see the Portals section), then see what resellers see.
- The customer's own record shows that it is a reseller, or which reseller it buys through.
- Next: set targets and allocate stock.
