Close the month for a client
The month-end close checklist keeps your routine the same in every client: bank, bills, accruals, VAT, depreciation, payroll, then the period locked. Each step links to its screen, records who did it and when, and the last step follows Books' own closing.
Before you start
- Open the client from Clients on the partner portal, or select Month-end close on its row there (see work in a client's organisation).
- Most steps need Books (accounts) with Full access; payroll and depreciation need their areas open too.
Steps
- In the client's Kluvan, open Accountant → Month-end close. The month being closed is shown at the top; use the arrows for Previous month and Next month.
- Go down the steps: Bank reconciled, Supplier bills entered, Accruals, VAT reviewed, Depreciation run, Payroll posted and Period locked.
- For each step, select Open its screen and do the work there.
- Back on the checklist, type a Note if useful (for example "2 lines left for the client"), then select Mark done.
- If a step does not apply to this client, select Not needed. Reopen puts a step back to To do.
- When the other steps are done, open the screen of Period locked and close the month in Books. The step ticks itself, and a banner says Books closed for that month.

Good to know
- Period locked cannot be ticked by hand. It follows Books' closing, with Books' own checks (pws_lock_in_books). See close a month.
- Progress counts. The steps done of the month being closed show on the client's Accountant tiles and on your Clients page (for example 3/7).
- Bank reconciled goes with Bank lines to match on your work list; see match and reconcile.
- The client's owner and managers see the same checklist and its notes.
- Waiting for something from the client? Send a request with a due date (see ask a client for documents).
